Manish Bhardwaj, co-founder of the Innovators in Health, Aahan considering the establishment of a community based tuberculosis (TB) control program in rural India. The case describes TB diagnosis and treatment in public and private health sector in India and the challenges it poses. A number of candidate interventions to improve the existing system of health care are aligned presented at the end of the case, each of which could form the core Aahan. Students are encouraged to use operations management principles in order to quantify the potential benefits for public health and the cost of these measures and to prioritize them accordingly. Key concepts include process flow mapping, flow balance, Little’s law and selection of appropriate process measures the strategic objectives of the process.
