Capitec Bank, a new bank was founded in the fall of apartheid, newly opened to provide for the economic progress and the quest for the end of the discriminatory system, banking services and loans to the large number of low-income prospective customers. The banking system context has been dominated by four large and well-established practices by banks with conservative heritage. Capitec plans to create an innovative offering to serve the low-income market and migrate this offer in higher income groups. At the same time, the competitive context began to change, as other banks trying to attract customers with lower incomes as well. The case examines the Capitec strategic options for the survival and expansion in this context.
