This case series is intended for use in courses that the political economy and the process of economic reforms (see also B case UV1606). It transports students to the stormy coast of Colombia. Pupils have the paradox that the Colombian economy in Latin America was a shining star on a number of measures, though the country on an unstable political foundation crouched deal. The (A) case provides an examination of the economic reform process in a Latin American context. Until the mid-1990s changed economic reforms of the Colombian economy inwardly they focused integrated into the global economy, the so-called Apertura Economica. The macroeconomics, microeconomics and institutional reforms towards this goal are investigated in detail. The relative economic stability in the (A) case analyzed differs economic hardship in the (B) case when the unstable political situation in the foreground surges. , Have perpetuated the civil war and social unrest caused by interest groups relied on the drug trade finance to their positions caused a tremendous challenge by the end of the 20th Century.
