This new group needs to examine and used reduce the high error rate of a critical part in the final production of multi-cylinder diesel engines. Lin must decide who is right in the team, what data must be collected and analyzed, what causes the problem and what measures should be taken to be included. The improvement project is part of the wider Longxi quality of the systems and set in order to encourage students to assess and promote corporate quality systems. This case is the first in a three part series that applies the principles and tools of total quality management (TQM) in a Chinese setting.
