The advent of superior connectivity and integration technologies paves the way for flexible electronic partnering options. This flexibility is important if a company wants (with different connectivity requirements and preferences) in order to attract a large number of partners, its supply chain network. This article conceptualizes 12 electronic partnership options. Then, the different types of sensemaking and transformation challenges that companies will face (e-business) capability in the development of these critical e-commerce and proposes a multi-faceted approach to effectively deal with them. This approach consists of four distinct but synergistic campaigns of digitization – strategic congruence, organizational design, IT infrastructure and relational campaigns. The benefit of this approach is illustrated by examples of successful business-to-business (B2B) digitization initiatives.
