Rick Drumm once a Teenager drumming contest winner is facing the most promising, but also the biggest challenge of career transition in his career as a manager and leader. During the second year MBA student in a fast-track program and serves as President Vic Firth Inc., a $ 20-million revenue drumstick manufacturer, he is recruited to become President J. D’Addario & Co., the largest Manufacturers of musical accessories in the United States. Having survived a series of interviews he informed that he is Jack Welch, the legendary CEO of General Electric, as the last step must be consulted in its selection process. Rick has to decide how to prepare for this interview, how to approach this final review of qualifications to take the lead of a much larger and more complex organization. The three-part video means may be used in conjunction with the case series, starting with a short segment which is behind the event duration 4:39 minutes. Consisting of a Q & A session in an MBA class (where the case is taught), as well as some one-on-one interview footage with Rick and the author, it is designed to “real person” exposure to the protagonist, a supply that could enrich the discussion of the case. The interview with Jack Welch, the second video segment, lasting 6:03 minutes, gives a firsthand account of what it was like for Rick to go through this scary at first interview, and how a number of problems in its place during the process. The third segment, taking charge at D’Addario, 11:15 minutes duration, gives a detailed account of the challenges Rick in understanding the business and get a good overview of the issues he had faced to solve. It also provides the concrete steps he took to begin the transformation of the company.
